SharePoint 2013 on Windows 8?

According to this SharePoint 2013 isn’t officially supported on client OS (like Windows 8)

Assuming you don’t want to install Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or Windows Server 2012 as you main OS.

There is a Good news – Windows 8 Pro includes Hyper-V Client!

However there is a catch – Hyper-V Client requires SLAT capable CPU. SLAT or Second Level Address Translation is a technology introduced in both Intel and AMD flavors of processors. Intel version is called EPT (Extended Page Tables) and AMD version is called RVI (Rapid Virtualization Indexing). Reason for this is to give a high end graphics experience to Developers on Client version of Hyper-V for dev work. Hyper-V Server doesn’t not require SLAT.

You can use Sys Internals CoreInfo to find out if your CPU supports SLAT. Run coreinfo.exe –v and if you see a dash next to EPT or NPT row your CPU doesn’t support it (this includes Intel Core2 Duo!)
